Festivaltime! Today was Waitangi Day in New Zealand, the day the British settlers and the Māori people signed the New Zealand’s founding document – the Treaty of Waitangi – in 1840. The Treaty ‘aimed’ to protect the rights of Māori to keep their land, forests, fisheries and treasures while handing over sovereignty to the English. We parked at Waitangi Treaty Grounds one of New Zealand’s most historic place in the middle of the festival and are in the middle of the action. The kids helped yesterday by testing the bouncy castles. And we watched the outdoor movie Moana! The festival is waste free, smoke free and alcohol free with over 30.000 visitors. Now everybody left we’re watching the hunt for the Wilderpeople out in the park!
